MATHEMATICSThe sessions after the Summer Break commenced with a warm welcome of the students and the discussion of the Holiday Homework. The students self-checked their Holiday Engagement tasks and made the required corrections. They recapitulated Number Systems, focusing more on Rounding-Off and Equivalence of the Number Systems, to help prepare for the upcoming Unit Test. They practiced multiple worksheets related to the same and had doubt clarification sessions too. The students were then exposed to the concept of Basics of Geometry - understanding of Points, Lines, Line Segments and Rays. The students developed an understanding of them all and learnt to differentiate each of them as well. The young minds were introduced to the concept of Symmetry by a fun Art-Integrated Activity. They further learnt about Lines of Symmetry and honed their related skills by practicing multiple worksheets and questions from the textbook. The month ended with them understanding about Triangles and its Types. They were able to differentiate the Types of Triangles on the basis of the number of sides of each Triangle. They presented themselves as aware and enthusiastic citizens ready to change the drastic effects of micro and single use plastic pollution in their own small ways. The chapter Skeletal and Nervous system was revisited, doubts and gaps were cleared through effective class discussions. Students were given rigorous practice of writing scientific answers to given questions to prepare well for the UT. The chapter Habitat and Adaptation began with students inquiring, brainstorming and finding out about different habitats in small groups. Information like climate, animals and plants, typical adaptations to survive in the environment were looked into whereby students found out more about the assigned habitat. This made them into expert groups. The students then presented their findings to their peers. Through peer-learning students were made aware about the different types of habitats and their specialties. Students also made beautiful animal stands of animals found in a certain habitat. Details like special characters, facts about the animal, habitat etc. were shared for the animals they had chosen to research about and create the stands. It was a fun and fulfilling activity. Students understood related terms like camouflage, hibernation, aestivation. They also made a note of different adaptations found in different animals. Types of adaptation were discussed to make students learn about the fact that adaptations are genetic and helps in survival of the species in a specific environment. Continuing the Chapter- Freedom Struggle, the students learnt about the Khilafat movement, Rowlatt Act, Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Quit India movement, and Dandi March with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. Learning was further made interesting by discussing the role of Captain Lakshmi Sehgal in our freedom struggle. The new topic- Greenland -Land of Ice and Snow was introduced with the help of a Jigsaw puzzle. The students enjoyed locating Greenland on the world map using Mapmaker interactive. Brainstorming was done on the topic of -Formation of Icebergs, its effects, and Global warming. Life of the people, Wildlife, Climate, and Vegetation were discussed in detail. Learning was further made interesting using Sway presentation of the lesson. The Longest Migration of Arctic turn left the students mesmerized by the ability of the bird to fly across the two circles. Notebook work was done to enhance critical thinking and writing skill. Later during the month, as part of the Subject integration week, linking it to the topic of Freedom struggle, our enthusiastic students learnt about SDG 16 Peace, Justice, and strong institutions. The new topic - History of Computer was introduced with different early calculating machines used before the invention of computers. We discussed about various inventors and their inventions, different generations of computers and types of computers. Students created a tabular data in word about all the invention done in the field of computers. In grammar, children learnt about the subject-predicate and types of sentences. They understood the structure and transformation of a sentence . Later in the chapter they were explained about the usage of Question tags in positive and negative sentences. Children were further introduced to the chapter 'The Hare and the Tortoise' . Discussion was done in the class wherein children learnt about the importance of Humility . Meaning of phrases was done in the class and comprehension exercises was done in the notebook after discussion in the classroom. Children actively participated in the Subject Integration activity wherein they composed a poem with the help of rhyming words and beautifully reflected on the A4 sheets. Started the session with fun topics like Animals, Colours. They were introduced to grammar topics- Indefinite articles and Possessive adjectives with examples. Watching a video on animals sounds and names was an enjoyable moment in class. A PPT on farm, wild and domestic animals was presented and the students had the opportunity to learn the pronunciation and spelling of the animal’s name. Qualify and colours adjectives were introduced in class and revised later with a game. The students learnt the article, adjective noun agreement and had the opportunity to make their own sentences describing their favourite animal. During the Language and Performing Art week the students were introduced to the culture of Cuba with a PPT presentation. This was followed by the students interviewing their peers to revise w-questions learned earlier. They also drew and labelled their own family tree, which helped them further go though the vocabulary on family members learnt earlier. Definite and indefinite articles in nominative and accusative case further added to their knowledge of subject and direct object case. After introducing the nominative personal pronouns and few basic verbs like "sein (to be)", "heißen (to be called)", and "haben (to have)" students enjoyed singing a song on colours. The month began with a choreography on a patriotic song in fusion dance style. Students enjoyed learning various gestures and postures with the peppy rhythmic song- "Satyamev Jayate". WESTERN DANCE"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a patriotic song embibing the spirit of love and respect towards the nation. We used lines and curves (tools) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It's a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. An introduction to basic patterns of Bongo Drumming and different cascara patterns. VISUAL ARTSStudents were introduced to drawing birds and animals using Graphic Art technique. They used their imagination to draw fauna using basic drawing techniques like handling of pencils, space utilization, contour lines, etc. Art Integration with Social Science- Students were introduced to logo designing wherein they were asked to imitate the logo of World Wildlife Fund for Animals and create their own logo using imagery of any endangered species.
