ENGLISHChildren were introduced to the poem "Wind Poems" , where they learnt about personification and metaphor in detail. The poem comprises of 2 parts in which children were introduced to two descriptions of wind given by two different poets. Children learnt various new words and did comprehension exercises given at the back of the chapter. Direct / Indirect speech was introduced to children and they learnt how to change sentences from Direct speech into Indirect speech. They did textbook exercises . Children prepared actively for the parent walk-in this month and presented a good show in front of the parents. SCIENCEThe month began with the students recapping and getting further clarity of the concepts of light, shadow and properties of shadow. Students, thereafter, were introduced to the concept of force, where they experienced and visualized the effects and nature of force through simple experiments. The students were introduced to different kinds of force through simple experiments conducted in class where they could experience forces like electromagnetic force, buyoant force, gravitational force and frictional force. Students were also introduced to different classes of levers whereby the concept of load, fulcrum and effort and how the type of lever is adjudged from the position of these three factors were clarified. Students of grade 5 successfully conducted a parent walk in to showcase their confidence and skills in public intercative speaking, teamwork and problem solving which are all 21st century skills. The interactive and hugely successful event was based on the integration of Mathematics and Science with Art. It was a brilliant display of amalgamation of concepts of Mathematics and Science with simple experiments found in our daily life and through artistic expressions. The students correlated the aims, and objectives of the United Nations with the aims of 17 Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved globally by 2030. Continuing their learning further, the organs and agencies of the United Nations were discussed. Students were acquainted with India's active role in the United Nations. Using art as a tool, students drew the logo of the United Nations and the flow chart of the organs of the United Nations in the notebook. The students were also engaged in learning about the evolution of scripts, the origin of numbers, and how printing developed. Using SDG -16 they composed acrostic poems on Peace and designed their symbols on peace. Integrating life skills, they also designed posters on saving themselves and others during floods. The best way is to learn by doing. The students made Disaster kits putting all essentials required to carry during natural disasters. A recap of Unit test topics was done through MS form revision quiz on Teams. The students also learnt about the evolution of transport from wheel to international highways and expressways. The students got introduced to the concept of Least Common Multiple (LCM) and practiced related questions. The last working week of October kept the students interestingly busy with the Parent walk-in practices. This was followed by the students learning new verbs in the class. They actively participated in the salad making activity conducted in the class. The students attempted to make small sentences on family members with articles in the class. Children were further introduced to the school stationary, means of communication and means of transportation vocabulary through story telling. Class test 1 was conducted in the class, in which students actively participated and scored well.
