MATHEMATICS Students started their learning of Mathematics through a knowledge recall session. They were quizzed on the basic concepts of numbers learnt till now. Students gave various examples where they used rounding off the numbers like – grocery shopping, etc. Students also practiced the following concepts:
Students explored the Sep-Edu Book and used the SEP Edu kit with great excitement, they counted the number of cubes and hidden cubes in different shapes. They also created different shapes using the SEP Edu kit. SCIENCE Students learnt about the most complex organ system in their body i.e. the Nervous system. They understood about the different parts of the nervous system and were able to apply their learning about how their body system co-ordinates to perform various functions and movements. Students learnt about the different kinds of nerves and their contribution in reflex actions. They were able to quote many examples of reflex action from day today life and were able to identify the stimulus and response in each case, thereby making a connection of their learning with real life. The learners were thrilled to know about the various parts of eye and identified the reason of different eye colour, and what will be the various stimuli and responses in case of the eyes. SOCIAL SCIENCE Students were shown a few images to identify the problems existing in society during pre-independence era like Child Marriage, Sati System or Caste System. Students gained knowledge about these problems and collected information about Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar, the social reformers, and their contribution for the upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society. Students explored about the formation of Indian National Congress, its objectives, policies and founder members. Students were able to categorize the views of the Moderates and Radicals, and students memorized the famous slogan given by Bal Gangadhar Tilak- Swaraj is my birth right and I shall have it. Critical thinking questions were initiated by discussing inquisitive topics like the partition of Bengal. The need for Swadeshi movement and its objectives were discussed. Critical Thinking was initiated to correlate the Swadeshi Movement with Make In India, COVID vaccine and to make them understand that how "make in India " and swadeshi movement are important to promote local economy? To impart the knowledge about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi, a video about life of Gandhi ji was shared. ICT In continuation with the previous month, students progressed one level ahead and achieved the stage where they implemented their learning about the use of Tables in MS Word and came up with creating the ideal Time table for their class. During the course of leaning, they also created a maze game using Tables in MS Word and shared it with their friends. In the game, a dog searches the path to reach its house. The students also created the basic calculator in MS Word and integrated ICT with Math. The chapter was concluded with the revision of their learning and brainstorming exercises. ENGLISH The students continued their learning with a new style of writing i.e. Non-Chronological Report Writing. It helped them develop the skill of organizing certain pieces of information on the given topic. The report sample and the graphic organizer helped them categorize the facts and structure the report. Art was integrated with this topic as the students made an effort to illustrate an animal/ bird in the report. Through this concept, the SDG 15 - Life on Land was touched upon. The students’ clarity of understanding the topic was reflected through their attempt of the practice questions. The leaners developed their grammatical knowledge by learning more about the types of Pronouns and their application. The students actively participated in the lessons sharing their responses in the chat box. A PowerPoint Presentation and a video about the topic “Pronouns” made the session interactive wherein the students shared their previous knowledge about the concept. The lesson culminated with the practice exercises from Book. The expression of sentences is closely knitted and connected with one of the basic elements in language learning i.e. Punctuation. A paragraph without any punctuation was shared with students enabling them to identify the errors in it and eventually helping them deduce the function of each punctuation mark. This particular concept will be continued in the next month. HINDI कक्षा पाँच के छात्रों छात्रों ने मज़दूर दिवस के महत्तव को समझते हुए कार्ड बनाकर, उपहार देकर एवं अपने प्यार भरे शब्दों मे वीडियो के माध्यम से कृतज्ञता व्यक्त की। छात्रों ने मातृदिवस को भी बड़े अनोखे अंदाज़ में प्रस्तुत किया और अपनी माताओं के प्रति कृतज्ञता व्यक्त की। ‘ एक बूँद कविता ’ का भावार्थ समझाकर उन्हें हिम्मतवान, धैर्यवान एवं मुसीबतों का सामना करने की प्रेरणा दी गई । छात्र कविता का रूचिपूर्वक वाचन करते हुए उसका भावार्थ बताने में सफल रहे। कविता के अभ्यास कार्य, कठिन शब्द करवाए गए। ‘एक बूँद ’ कविता का चित्र बनाकर रचनात्मक कला का प्रदर्शन किया । पीपीटी के माध्यम से ‘ कि एवं की ‘ का सही प्रयोग करना सिखाया गया। अभ्यास पत्रिका की सहायता से कक्षा में पढ़ाए गए कार्य की पुनरावृत्ति हुई। अपठित गदयांश की पुनरावृत्ति उचित प्रकार से की कराई गई। चित्र को देखकर मन मे उठे भावों एवं विचारों का प्रदर्शन छात्रों ने अच्छी तरह से किया । इस तरह छात्रों के मनोबल को बढ़ाते हुए रचनात्मक अभिव्यक्ति एवं क्रियात्मक कला का विकास किया गया । PHYSICAL EDUCATION In their PE lessons, the students worked on: Warm-up exercises: On the spot jogging, jumping and running. Agility exercises: Modified push-ups, triangle pose, and chair pose with repetitions. Flexibility exercises: Standing Hamstring stretch (Bending Forward) and Piriformis Stretch (Hip Rotation). Through Asamyukta hasta mudra’s (single hand gestures) used in Shiv Vandana, students learnt about the hand gestures which describe lord Shiva such as Trishula, Sarpashirsh, Katka, Chandrakala. After that they performed the dance on a beautiful song name- ‘Jai Jai Kedara’. They also recited a poem related to Mother’s Day. Application of their learning: Students did a role play related to Mother’s Day while they also understood dialogue delivery and characterisation. Additionally, they learnt to dramatically recite a poem. Various warm up exercises were performed and a game ‘Copy Me’ was played to enhance drama skills. Communication needs to be effective and clear. Effective communication is incomplete without the use of words, actions and expressions. This month students were introduced to verbal and nonverbal communication including barriers in communication. With the help of case studies, worksheets and other relevant videos, students were made aware about this concept. Importance of listening was also shared, as effective listening leads to effective communication.
