MATHEMATICSStudents started their learning of Mathematics through a recall knowledge session. They were quizzed on their prior understanding of Fractions. Students understood the concept of Equivalent Fractions by a Flash card activity. Students also practiced the following concepts:
SUBJECT INTEGRATION: As part of the Math Science Visual Art Subject integration week, students of Grade 5 let their creativity flow to produce a Mosaic Art using paper scraps & colouring. Completing the Mosaic Art students counted the number of colour strips to arrive at a Fraction statement for each of the colours used. Students enjoyed the Fraction activity by integrating Math and Visual Art. Integrating Science and Visual Art, students made a working model of a Simple Machine, in sync with the topic that they were learning about in their Science lessons. They enjoyed getting hands on and making a model of an Inclined plane, Pulley, Wheel and an Axle. They took help of the cutouts that they had kept ready in advance to make the model. Integration of Science and Visual Art was made interesting when students shared their model and understood the technical aspect of it. Students with great excitement explored the Sep-Edu Book and the Kit. Using the SEP Edu kit, they created different shapes SCIENCEForce and energy The students continued to learn about ‘Force and Energy’ this month. Students were explained about the different types of Simple machines that we use in our daily lives like knives, water bottles, blinds for windows etc. Further, they also gave some examples for each type of machine. In the next topic, various kinds of energies were discussed with the help of live examples and videos. Students were encouraged to identify and share real life examples where they have observed the use of these energies. They also understood that how energies change from one form to another where switching on a television (electrical energy) converts to light, sound and heat energy. In relation to SDG-7 Affordable and Clean Energy, the discussion was done on the renewable and non-renewable sources of energy and students attempted the worksheet from their ‘Be the Change’ concluding the learning and information as shared in class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JdvH_8cz-I SOCIAL SCIENCECh 13.Transmitting Knowledge-Continued from last month Continuing their learning path, students were able to categorize mass media and personal media into its respective categories. They also discussed the importance of media and its pivotal role during COVID times. Ch.10 Pollution Looking at the ongoing scenario of bad air quality in Delhi –NCR, students were asked about the harmful effects of Air pollution. The meaning and the range of AQI were discussed. Students were able to correlate with the topic and shared the problems faced by them and their family members in the present situation. They also discussed Odd/Even vehicles on the road as one of the solutions that has been suggested by the government. The different types of pollution, causes and its harmful effects were analyzed, identified and discussed by the students. Identifying the problems led to further discussion where they suggested appropriate solutions to reduce different types of pollution. Great Garbage Patch was shown with the help of a map and a video to understand and track the journey of trash from landfill to ocean and its impact on marine life and climate. Students were also encouraged to suggest innovative ways to solve the garbage issues. Images of Gazipur landfill and Versova beach clean-up were shared to instigate the young minds to adapt SDGs in real life. An example of the cleanest city of India, Indore was done with the help of a video. Gk Book –Page 18 Marine was done to understand marine life and their importance. Be the Change-SDG worksheet 8 was done to understand the sustainable consumption and its importance. Oral and written revision for UT was done. They practiced its features Cortana, Windows Store, Task View, snap assist, Windows Hello, etc. They demonstrated the use of Aero Shake and Snap features to their peers. During the entire process of learning the students learnt the in-depth Windows commands. They were directed to suggest and propose the new features for Windows new version. ENGLISHThe genre of poetry was explored through the chapter ‘Wind Poems’ comprising of two poems about wind. The students became familiar with various aspects of the structure of the poem such as stanza, couplets, rhyming words, and blank verse. The poetic device ‘Personification’ was in focus during the lessons. The students honed their comprehension skills while attempting various questions from the poems. They worked upon their poem recitation and enjoyed reciting them. They could compare and contrast the nature of the wind in both poems. In grammar, the students learnt to frame sentences using different types of Adverbs. They listed various types of adverbs post the exercises to recapitulate their knowledge of the concept learnt. The lesson concluded with the application of Adverbs learnt which became evident in their attempt to complete the task assigned and peer checked the practice exercises of the chapter in the grammar book. Besides this, the students revised the concepts learnt for Unit Test-II. The class watched a video on ‘Articles’ in the language as part of revision and discussed the noun article agreement rules. A poster-making / slogan writing activity on “Conservation of water and energy” was done in class as a culmination of a fun-filled month. They were introduced to a few pronominal verbs along with other verbs related to daily routine. A quick recap of definite and indefinite articles was done with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. Identifying flags of different countries was done as a class activity. They were also introduced to new vocabulary related to air and water. The topic was introduced through a video on daily routine of a child in Germany as an example. The children enjoyed discussing their daily routine in German after learning various verbs and phrases related to the topic. A PowerPoint presentation on Air and Water was also shown in the class through which the children were able to learn the various sources of water and uses of water in the country. They were taught to be good researchers while making a poster on conservation of energy and water and add a slogan in German supporting the topic. संस्कृतपाठ – 11-14 के माध्यम से अव्ययशब्दों का तालिका द्वारा अनुप्रयोगात्मक अभ्यास और सर्वनामशब्दरूप –अस्मद् - युष्मद् का प्रथमा- विभक्ति प्रयोग सहित तथा लट्लकार में अर्थ – सहित अनुप्रयोगात्मक अभ्यास सीखकर छात्रों ने छोटे –छोटे वाक्यों में वार्तालाप करते हुए सामान्य संभाषण का अभ्यास किया । परियोजनात्मक शिक्षण (Project base learning) के अंतर्गत दृश्य श्रव्य सामाग्री के माध्यम से अव्यय- और सर्वनाम शब्दों की तालिका बनाकर सम्यक् वाक्य ज्ञान प्राप्त किया। सतत विकास के लक्ष्य -३’उत्तम शिक्षा और खुशहाली’ से सबंधित प्रश्नोत्तरी का प्रस्तुतीकरण करते हुए उत्साहपूर्वक अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। द्वितीया इकाई परीक्षा में छात्रों द्वारा किया गया प्रदर्शन प्रशंसनीय रहा।

accept the differences that make people unique." Students were introduced to the monthly theme “Tolerance”. They understood that tolerance means respecting the opinions of others even if they are different from our own opinions, valuing everyone, avoiding stereotypes, living together peacefully. Tolerant people show strength by dealing with different opinions and perspectives, being patient, making friends and forgiving. Everyone is different and we should respect individual differences.
