EnglishThis month chapter 'Pronouns' was continued and various textbook exercies were attempted by the children. Chapter 'Adjectives' was introduced in the classes with the help of a video. Children were explained the types , formation and order of Adjectives. Lot of practice exercises were done in the class and given in the weekend worksheet too. After completion of Adjectives , chapter 'Punctuation' was done in the class where tyhe children were explained the importance of using punctuaation marks. Textbook exercises were attempted by the children. Poetic devices like Simile, Personification and Onomatopoeia were discussed in the class and children were encouraged to compose a poem . ScienceThe students learned about food and nutrition which is a major concept in their growing up as healthy individuals. They learned about the componnets of food and identified the different food items that provide the nutrients. This lead them to understand the new food pyramid and its implications in health. Stuednts became aware about the importance of exercise along with a balanced diet. As a part of their learning students created a meal plan for a day incorporating all nutrients required for the body. They also delved in research on SDG 2 'Zero Hunger' to understand the importance of food wastage and suggested ways they can undertake to tackle the problem. Students engaged in flameless cooking activity in class in small groups. They made vegetable and cheese sandwitch, sprout and nut salad and fruit and dryfruit parfait. The students were made aware that each of these food items have most of the essential nutrients in right proportions to make it a part of a balanced meal. The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by students as they enjoyed the snacks with their peers too. It was an activity that promoted team work while enhancing the students' palate and ensuring they get hands-on experience of curating a balanced meal for themselves which is nutitious as well as tasty. Students then extended their learning to understand deficiency diseases caused by nutritional deficits in the body. They understood about the trace elements needed in small quantity by the body to function well. The students took their learning further by understanding about diseases, both communicable and non-communicable. They also discussed and understood the ways to protect themselves from communicable diseases. These concepts should hopefully propel the children towards living a healthy and disease free lifestyle, which is the core objective of the learning. They identified and located them on the world map in their map books. Their prior knowledge on importance of forests, causes of human activities on forests and ways to conserve them was tested through an interactive video and a handout. Integrating the topic with English students wrote a paragraph on -Forests are lungs of the earth. Further integrating the topic with Arts and SDG 15-Life on land, the students made a cartoon /Satire on the present condition of the planet due to the human activities. The students collaborated in groups and presented their research work on location, climate, economy and life of the people of Prairies, Greenland, Saudi Arabia and Democratic republic of Congo as part of their Project activity. The new topic Natural disaster was introduced through a video on major natural disasters in the world. They learnt about causes, effects and safety measures to be followed during the various natural disasters. To strengthen their critical thinking skills, students were engaged in interactive discussions finding solutions to various situations when caught up in a disaster They were acquainted with new terms facts and information related to the various disasters. Integrating the topic with life skills and the monthly theme-I am compassionate- students were sensitized about the threat to survival of Bonobos and were motivated to empathize and chose freedom and survival of the endangered species. Later during the month, a revision on the topic-The grasslands -Prairies was conducted. The students were involved in active research work on major earthquakes, climate and vegetation in major grasslands of the world. The new topic of United Nations was introduced with a discussion on importance of Peace in the world. Word search , puzzles, see think wonder strategies, research work , interactive discussions were the various methodologies used during the month to develop responsibility and skills in the students towards their environment and the planet . Moving on with another Number Operation, students practiced questions on properties of Division and discussed the Key Words involved. They revisited and practiced Long Division by 1-digit Divisor, with and without remainder. Students further were exposed to Long Division by 2-digit Divisor which took their understanding of Long Division to another dimension altogether. They further solved real life situations involving the operation of Division by 1-2 digit divisor. The end of the month witnessed exploration of the topic of Factors and Multiples. Students initiated by recapitulating and practicing the Listing of Factors and Multiples. They were excited to learn about Highest Common Factor and finding the same by Listing Method. FrenchFood was the monthly theme for the month of September. Children learnt the vocabulary of food and drink items in French. A video related to the topic was shared to enhance the vocabulary.Meal time in France was explained to understand the French meal culture.Children were also taught the verbs related to food: manger-to eat, boire- to drink, acheter- to buy, prendre- to take. This was followed by the students learning new verbs in the class. They actively participated in the salad making activity conducted in the class. They also revised vocabulary of fruits and nature with definite articles in nominative case. The students attempted to make small sentences on family members with articles in the class. Children were further introduced to the school stationary vocabulary. Class test 1 was conducted in the class, in which students actively participated and scored well. SpanishThe month of September begin with two assessments of previous topics. During this month the students learnt about the topic food, like basic vocabulary of food and beverage and the names of the four meals of the day in Spanish.As a grammar potion verbs like"comer" to eat, " beber" to drink and "tomar to take or grab, were introduced to the students. The class also learnt some frequency adverbs to express how frequent they consume different food and drinks.Question, answers on the topic where done in class too. Ear training and harmonic exercises of Western Solfage were done introducing the pentatonic scale along with the major and minor and melodic minor notes. Indian DanceDurga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is an annual Hindu festival originating in the Indian subcontinent which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu goddess Durga and is also celebrated because of Durga's victory over Mahishasur. Students learnt to dance to the tunes of Durga Stuti in classical dance style through various mudras, postures and various expressions on the song- Ya devi sarvabhuteshu. Western Dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a centain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Dandiya on 'Moti Veerana' song imbibing the spirit of love and devotion and giving them a basic importance and significance of Navaratri. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. Visual ArtsGrade 5- Students were introduced to Mandal Art and its significance with geometrical motifs as a subject integration with Mathematics. They were also acquainted with a new art form known as Illusion art as a subject integration with Soil and Light wherein soil and light are used to create compositional images. DramaStudents were engaged in all forms of physical activities to ensure coordination and physical agililty such as The Human Knot in which children stood holding each others' hands and tried to stand up without untangling the locked arms. The importance of expression and being in character was also imparted trough the Find The Murderer activity. Students learnt how to coordinate and function as a cohesive group through the Random Alphabet exercise. They were also taught about characterisation and given the task of coming up with 5 characters with unique character traits and quirks. 5A Special Assembly- Durga Puja and NavratriA special assembly was conducted by grade 5A marking the beginning of festivities of Navratri and Durga puja. The assembly began with students singing a mesmerizing Devi Stuti. Post sharing of news, word and thought of the day, the students narrated the mythological story of Devi Durga and Mahishashura, supported by visual aids. Thereafter students made the connection of the reason of Devi Durga being worshipped in autumn with the mythological reference of Ram invoking her to ask for her blessings before embarking on to fight Raavan and cross the sea. The fact that the divine powerful form is worshipped all across India in its own regional flavours was beautifully presented. In the heart of the assembly was trying to understand the fact that the power we worship is all within us, in everything that makes us living beings. ‘Yaa devi sarvabhuteshu’, the powerful salutation shlokas from the Puranas were sung and expressed with body movements by a group of students and translated in Hindi for every one to understand the true meaning of the shlokas. The fact that this divine power exists in each one of us in the forms of strength of mind, in our intellect, in peace and happiness, in our sleep or simply in the affection and care we show to another being was beautifully depicted. The assembly prayed to their inner strength to always keep the goodness in their hearts alive. A wonderful dhunuchi dance performance culminated the show on a happy note. Respected Principal madam blessed all students by iterating them to be mindful and respectful to everyone in thoughts and deeds. The assembly was concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
