ENGLISHThe month began with the chapter 'Swifter, Higher, Stronger' ,in which they learnt about three Olympians who have been successful in their respective sports. Children were explained the chapter and the new tough words were introduced to them . They framed the answers orally in the classes. For the chapter Conjunctions , children actively prepared power point presentations and presented them in the class. After which the book exercises were done by them . 'Modals' was introduced and explained in the class. Children were given various live worksheets to attempt the questions and they did the notebook assignment too. Chapter 'Walking on the Moon' was introduced and explained in the class. Children learnt a lot of new details about spacecraft and its landing techniques. Carrying forward the understanding of Air and Water learners experienced the process of sedimentation, decantation and filtration through experiments to take their understanding of water purification process further. The Chapter Sun, Moon and Earth brought forth the continuous curiosity about space that we all have. Creating moon phases with Oreo biscuits gave students a hands on learning of the different phases of moon as it revolves around earth. Creating working model of eclipses, both lunar and solar, clarified the concepts related to eclipses. Layers of the earth, Sun's structure and understanding of stars gave students deep insight to celestial structures. Students also understood the importance of man made satellites and learned how the satellites were placed to give maximum benefit to mankind. Students learned about volcanoes and conducted simple a experiment to create volcano in the class. This activity made them aware of why and how a real volcano erupts. Venn Diagram and T-chart was used to discuss the difference between weather and climate. Further elements of weather and factor affecting climate were discussed using See think Wonder strategy. Continuing their learning further, heat zones were recalled and students located various countries in different heat zones on the map of India. The students were also acquainted with SDG 12 and they realized the importance of using the resources responsibly and sustainably. The new topic Our Government was introduced. Levels and Organs of government were discussed using flow charts and taking real-life examples. Parliament and its composition were also discussed. Judiciary and its importance were discussed using real-life examples. The students attempted a live quiz on quizzes from the chapter-Our Government. Features of maps and types of maps were also discussed using visual illustrations. During January, students learned about the features of latitude and longitude. They enjoyed locating important latitudes and longitudes on the globe. As an activity of the water heritage project, students are creating a River corner in class. River story was also introduced and the life of a river was discussed. They further learnt to compare and order Decimal numbers and also got a hang of adding and subtracting decimals numebers. Students practiced real life situations involving comparing and adding/subtracting decimal numbers. They also took a Class Assessment on the topic of Decimals. Around the end of the month, grade V students were introduced to the new concept of Percentages. They were able to develope a good understanding of Percentages by relating Percentages to real life situations and converting them to Fractions and Decimals. From where the students recall new words and practiced the pronunciation. The class did a subject integration activity with ICT using the Scratch programming to make a Solar Solar. A colourful hands-on activity was done where the students draw the Solar System and named the planets in Spanish language. As our school is a very important part of the student’s life, they learnt to name the different rooms of the school and learnt some question answers on the topic. An integrated activity with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities was conducted in class where the students draw a school from a village in some Latin America country and wrote a small paragraph on it. Bhangra is a traditional folk dance that’s a staple of the region’s culture. The dance itself has an incredibly rich history, not to mention the beautiful costumes, choreography, and music. In the month of January, Suncitizens learnt Bhangra folk dance steps on 'Vibe' song on the occasion of Lohri festival.NO PICTURES FOR JAN MONTH. WESTERN DANCE"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The month of January began with a new dance style -Bhangra- on 'Vibe' song imbibing the spirit of happiness. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements (tapping and shuffling) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of movements like plie and shoulder. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DRAMAAfter the prolonged winter vacation and with beautiful memories of a festive season, children started with new enthusiasm. The year started with a fresh introduction. A creative introduction, students introduced themselves carrying out one emotion. Students came up with different emotions and expressions. “Passing the ball” a drama game that takes students imagination power to a new level was practiced, changing the shape and size of the imaginary ball makes them bring different expressions and improves there Mime skills. The activity “Focus Counting” was introduced to grade 5 students, counting 1 to 100 is a very simple task for Grade 5 students, but a simple task too requires a lots of focus and concentration. VISUAL ARTSStudents drew architectural spaces during online classes. They were shown the structures related to medieval Indian Architecture and were encouraged to use pen shading technique in their drawings. Students were also made aware of various National and Regional festivals celebrated during the month of January and were asked to draw and brightly color a scene of a festival of their choice with their favorite medium.
