ENGLISH Students started the month with the chapter 'Growing a city' . They learnt about Dubai and its developmental and infrastructural details and put their learning into application by doing comprehension exercises given in the chapter. They learnt format of the Formal letter, it was explained in the class and children were shown a sample letter too after which they wrote a letter in their fair notebooks. After completion of letter writing in the notebooks , children learnt 'Adverbs' and attempted exercises given in the textbook. Chapter ' Phrases and Clauses' was introduced in which the children learnt the meaning of phrases and clauses and were able to differentiate between both. SCIENCE The students continued their journey of finding out the marvels of the physical sciences. The learning journey they began in the previous month to know about force, energy, work and simple machines concluded this month. The journey was marked with many Wow! and Aha! moments, a typical reaction when one finds reason and connection of the learned concept and real life. This was especially true for finding simple machines in everyday objects. Students prepared well for the unit test that was conducted. States of matter was another fascinating topic they learned this month. Apart from exploring and investigating the factors that make matter change from one state to another, students also touched upon the concept of sublimation discussing ample examples from real life . Students made solutions of various solute and solvent and concluded on the properties of a solution. The concepts of solute and solvent would be now permanently seated in their minds. Physical and chemical changes was touched upon this month and understanding the factors that qualify a change to be of physical or chemical in nature was also highlighted . Students are now adept in analysing a change to be of physical or chemical in nature. Enviromental awareness is an important part of our living. Environmental issues were highlighted again as a part of integration with Social Studies. The evolution of communication from career pigeons to modern means of mass communication was discussed. Elements of the Communication process, advantages and disadvantages of the modern means of communication were discussed with the help of T Charts, Puzzles, and web snippets. Integrating with life skills, Quotes of Great Indian leaders and their contributions in various fields were shared with the students to instill values and motivate them to achieve their goals in life. The students researched the life, career, and contributions of a world leader and presented it in the form of a biography on A-4 Sheets. The new topic of pollution was introduced by sensitizing the students about the present state of the environment. The students also made a Fish Bone diagram of the causes, effects and preventive measures of different types of pollution. The students realized the alarming effects of global warming and the phenomena of climate change through a VUCA video. Integrating the topic with science SDG 13 was discussed with the students with a need to combat climate change and collaborate in a climate action program. The students made a graphic organizer of their contribution to Sdg -13 on the A-4 Sheet .continuing their learning further students classified the waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. They also located Garbage patches on the world map and related to the impact of plastic as the most significant environmental hazard and waste on land water and air .7R'sof sustainability were introduced and students listed various materials and methods for each R to save the environment. They also were taken on a field visit to the Compost pit in the school ground where they also saw the Sewage treatment plant and understood its functioning in reusing sewage and its water to grow plants in the school.SDG-12-Responsible consumption and production was also reinforced in relation to the 7 R’s of sustainability. A detailed revision for the Unit test was also taken on ms form Revision quiz and revision sheets. Unit Test 2 was also conducted during the month to assess their learning of concepts of the United Nations and Natural disasters. MATHEMATICS The month began with the extension of the practice work on Converting Improper Fractions into Mixed Numbers and vice versa. Students recapitulated their understanding of Adding and Subtracting Like Fractions and further learnt to Add/Subtract Unlike Fractions too. They had multiple activities to explore more and more about Fractions. They got introduced to the concept of Ordering Operations and practiced multiple related questions. They also learnt to apply the same in real life situations too by practicing to solve related Word Problems. Students recapitulated the concepts learnt to prepare for the Unit Test II and took the Test. The learning of the concept of Fractions got elevated when around the end of the month of November the students explored how to Multiply and Divide Fractions. SPANISH As the UT 2 exam was approaching the students revised each of the syllabus topics in class and wrote the main content in their notebooks. A revision worksheet was shared in Teams so the students can check their knowledge after the revision. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH Children's Day Children are not things to be moulded, but people to be unfolded.” – Jess Lair Children’s day was celebrated with a movie outing for the children. Movies are not only a source of entertainment. They are an immensely powerful medium that can educate and influence young minds, widening their canvas and helping them build a strong value system. Understanding how one adapts to their surroundings and as friends how you are there for each other was the learning when students watched the Disney movie ‘Lyle Lyle Crocodile’. JIM CORBETT EXCURSION Excursions and Tours form an important part of educative experience. Not only do the students discover new places but also learn self-reliance and taking care of themselves. As a part of this experience, an excursion to the famous Jim Corbett National Park was organized from 5 th - 7 th November,2022. Students from classes IV and V, accompanied by teachers went on this wonderful trip to India’s oldest National Park. The students enjoyed the sumptuous food along with the journey and were all set for the bon fire cum gala night on the first day. Next morning, with full on energy and enthusiasm the students headed towards the adventure park after breakfast. They also visited the Girjia temple which is uniquely positioned on top of a big rock in the middle of River Kosi. Next, was the most awaited jungle safari. Travelling in a convoy of jeeps, the students were excited to see the verdant forests all around. The excitement was palpable when the students could observe spotted deer and jackals. The safari was for 2 hours after which everyone returned to the resort for a sumptuous dinner. Later started the return journey for school and the students were handed back to their guardians thus bringing the wondrous excursion to a glorious end. Overall, it was a beautiful excursion which helped the students appreciate nature and the need to preserve our forests and animals living therein. It is hoped that this excursion would create lasting impressions on young minds about the need to conserve our environmental heritage.
